i just got this pretty cool CO2 tank at an auction. not sure how cool it is though...
i'm not familiar with these things...
can anyone tell me how many pounds of CO2 this thing might hold? is it suitable for a kegerator setup?

Good score - looks like a 20 pounder.  You're good for any home beer dispensing job with that any tank.

It's a 20#er. I don't know how to read those numbers but you might have to have that tank re-certified. Or if you just take it to NorCo or a welding shop, they can probably exchange for a full tank when it's empty.

The last one I exchanged was under $20.  I would just find somewhere that's convenient for you.  I went to Oxarc in Nampa which is north of Grover's on the boulevard.

You might take your gages in and let the experts have a look at them when you make your exchange.

The last time I exchanged, it was just over 20. Maybe even closer to 30.
You just give them your empty tank and they will gove you a full one back. But since that one is painted and logo'd, they might chose to just refill. That might be where the re-certification comes in.
Won't know until you try.

I go to my area NAPA. They've got the gas. I lost the tank I own in exchange for a rental, ownership of the tank is no biggie as long as you want to keep exchanging. No deposit & 20 lbs. was $20 last time.

napa? i had no idea they did any gasses at all. second question:
do i need to specify that the CO2 needs to be food grade?

From what I have read, Co2 is Co2. I don't think there is a difference.

Actually, I have read where there is CO2 that has an oil mixed with it. I forget what it's use was intended for. Maybe paintball. But C02 from NAPA or any welding supply place should be "food grade". It never hurts to verify though.
